Currents

The Brief

For my self-initiated final major project, I wanted to bring the local community together through design, despite the huge wealth disparites within BCP (Bournemouth, Christchruch and Poole).

The Strategy

‘Currents’ is a BCP-based newspaper showcasing the potential of the local area and people’s views on community, as well as highlighting the struggles of different groups. The newspaper aims to raise money to support people in the community, including those who are homeless or living in poverty.

For this project, I explored the wealth disparities within BCP, including documenting anti-homeless architecture in the local area, visiting a food bank and exploring ‘Millionaires’ Row’ in Sandbanks. I also asked people from the local area what community means to them, and their responses were used in the newspaper’s typographical experiments.
